Youth Project - Sundre Skatepark
Project update: December 11, 2007
We have made contact with The Knights of Columbus in Olds and they have offered their support in our project. They spear headed the initial funding for Olds Skate Park Project. Olds presently is not far off from their funding goals.
I have been in regular contact with SPECTRUM Skate Parks in Vancouver and they have given me many many resources on updating our power point and dealing with liability issues.
We had a media spread in the Gazette about a month ago that GNP requested. Our main objective was to update communities on the positive attributes of Skate Parks and how each involved community was involved and how they were progressing. We hoped to get some information out there and raise awareness.
Daryl Peters has kept in touch with me and the sign is nearly complete and almost ready to put up at the site to show the public where we are in our fundraising. Thanks so much to Daryl for your hard work in that.
I am presently updating our Powerpoint presentation to share with community groups of interest. We will be putting together information packs for all interested investors and supporters.
NEXT MEETING DATE
I would like anyone with an interest in helping to make this project a true reality to come to an information night hosted at Greenwood Neighbourhood Place. We have the kids, the ideas, and the means to fund raise, but we are looking for support from the community. Come check it out!
MONDAY JANUARY 14 2008
7:00 p.m. at Greenwood Neighbourhood Place
Please mark your calendars. If you have any questions or concerns please give me a call or stop by the office.
Thanks
Jackie

Sundre youth show enthuisiasm for park

Sundre youth showed its enthusiasm on Friday night, November 5, 2004, by attending a local workshop held at the Sundre Arena Club room. Over fourty youth and adults came together to brainstorm and meet Spectrum Skatepark Creations Ltd. designers Jim Barnum and Jon Greenglass.
Several months ago Sundre's youth decided it was finally time to push forward and get the skate park they dreamed of. The group made plans to have the designers from Vancouver fly over to Sundre and help the youth with some creative idea's and planning.
After meeting Jim and Jon the youth became even more pumped and excited as they realized there dreams were indeed achievable. First they demonstrated some of there tricks of the trades with skateboards. The group then met at the Arena Clubroom for a spnsored meal, thanks to local businesses and volunteers. After eating, the group got down to business by going through a power point slides presentation to help the participants 'picture' what was possible for there town. Through many wow's and awes, the group had a very clear picture of what type of park would work for Sundre. They decided they needed uniqueness, (to bring in skaters from all over and host competitions) and also versatility so that the park met the needs of all Sundre's younger population.
Landscaping was addressed, and what other needs the skate park would come across. All the youth got to design their own park on paper. The papers were then rolled up to be taken back with Jim and Jon, who will look at all plans and decide in depth what the youth are really after. Olds and Cochrane also hosted skatepark design workshops on the weekend.
In addition the raffle tickets were finally drawn to the youth's great eagerness. It was an awesome workshop, all participants leaving with a great sense of satisfaction and excitement in awe of a small town's big future. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 2nd at the Arena Clubroom.
