August 12 & 13, 2005
Twenty two participants and nine leaders spent Friday and Saturday roughing it Survivor style north-west of Sundre.
The second annual Survivor weekend gave the kids a chance to test their outdoor skills and work together as a team. The kids were divided up into three tribes, ZIONS, ABOOGWA and RAGING WOLVES.
At the beginning of the weekend, their first challenge was to build the shelter that they had to sleep in.
The teams were judged on creativity, practibility, and durability.
Other challenges included building an outhouse, fire and water boiling, tug-o-wars, and memory games.
One of the most interesting challenges was the food eating contest, where the kids had to face their fears of gross food. Each teammate had to choose between eating a raw egg mixed with soya sauce and tapioca pudding or pickled herring with relish.
Teammates got to work together by helping others who couldn't stomach the meal.
Another fun challenge was she slingshot challenge, where teams had to first build slingshots and then fire at a row of popcans to knock them over.
At the end of the weekend, each participant was given an award to reflect a quality they showed through the weekend such as leadership, sportsmanship or courage.
Kenten Grunau received the award for Most Valuable Survivor.
