How we got started

Sundre Youth
A concern was voiced within the community were the youth were not satisfied with the programs/activities they had access to and the bylaws that disallowed them to loiter about the streets of Sundre. Greenwood Neighbourhood Place handed out 505 questionnaires to the High School and the grade 7 and 8 students in spring of 2003. The information was amazing and very direct.

The youth felt frustrated that there was nothing to do, but they also would and could be charged under the towns bylaws by just hanging around.

There are some 600 youth between the ages of 10 and 18 in the town and surrounding rural area targeted by the Youth Leadership Program.

High on the list of priorities for them are a homework suppport program, teen leadership skill development and special events to create opportunities, that youth with limited financial resources can't access on their own.

The wish list of projects comes from a collaborative assessment involving youth, the community service groups, the schools and local politicians.

Sundre youth showed its enthusiasm on Friday night, November 5, 2004, by attending a local workshop held at the Sundre Arena Club room. Over fourty youth and adults came together to brainstorm and meet Spectrum Skatepark Creations Ltd. designers Jim Barnum and Jon Greenglass.
