Healthy Families

A Home Visitation Program

Healthy Families is a home visitation program available to give support to families with new babies.

How can the Healthy Families Program help?

  • A Healthy Families “Home Visitor” can help parents learn more about their baby and provide information and activities to promote healthy child development.
  • A Home Visitor provides parenting tips and encourages positive parent/child relationships.
  • A Home Visitor can provide information on how to connect with other community resources such as: employment counseling, education, medical care, children’s programs, child care and more.

The program is voluntary, is provided at no cost and families can stay involved for a short time or until their child is 5 years old.

Usually, it is the Public Health Nurse who refers mom and baby to Healthy Families but the family can initiate the service on their own.

Across the province home visitation programs go by different titles depending on what authority they are under. Greenwood Neighbourhood Place introduced Healthy Families to Sundre and area in 2001. Healthy Families Central Office is in Red Deer and operates out of Family Services of Central Alberta.

Carol Bates is the Healthy Families Home Visitor for Sundre and has college training, experience in Early Childhood Development and parenting, as well as mandatory training specific to the home visitation programs.
